I spent 5 days in the PICU, because I just really liked the care I got there! Actually, I didn't like being extubated,
and worked so hard to breathe on Tuesday and Wednesday, that I collapsed the upper lobe of my right lung. They
started some great (really horrible) respiratory treatments on me that involved a crazy looking mask and having a suction
catheter stuck down my nose! I didn't like it, but it did help me get better.
I went to the floor on Friday afternoon, and spent all weekend there, while Mommy worked right downstairs. She
did sneak up a FEW times to snuggle with me though! The drainage from my silly old blake drains continued to be more
than they wanted, so it was Tuesday before they pulled those, stitched 'em up, and kicked me out!
I had great nurses, Kristen, Leanne and Stacy during the day. And an awesome nurse-Kim on the night shift!
My respiratory therapists weren't my favorite people to see, but they did help me get better-Teresa, Doris, Scott and
Lori!
I was so lucky, my very own cardiologist Dr. Kaine was on inpatient service that week, and came by to see me every day!
He's the greatest!
The PICU doctors who cared for me, Dr. Banwart and Dr. Sommerauer were super too!
But of course, the man who my Mommy thinks the world of-Dr. Lofland-considered one of (if not THE) best pediatric Cardiovascular
surgeons in the country. Children's Mercy, and the children it serves are so lucky to have this man on staff, with the
amazing things he does for our kids. His partner, Dr. O'Brien, and all his CV Staff are the greatest, and I thank all
of them for making me better!
We are so fortunate to have a great pediatric hospital like Children's Mercy right here in our hometown, and not have
to travel like so many other heart families do, please check out what an awesome place it is in the "useful links"
category!
